Statewide Education Summit
February 16, 2007

Executive Summary Report

The fourth annual Statewide Education Summit, the state’s major forum for discussing education reform, helped education stakeholders become better decision makers as they develop and refine strategic school improvement plans. The Summit provided a rare opportunity to hear some of the most accomplished and talented persons in the fields of business and education give their view of the state of education and what can be done to improve the delivery of skills and knowledge to the children in our K-12 public schools.

We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the sponsors who made the Summit possible: Washington Mutual, Houston Endowment Inc., Texas High School Project, Texas Instruments, Verizon, AT&T and Dell.

The audience of more than 800 education stakeholders included the entire school community (superintendents, administrators, principals, teachers, school board members and teacher associations) along with policymakers, business and chamber leaders, workforce development boards, higher education, education service centers, public policy groups, the State Board of Education, the Texas Education Agency, The Higher Education Coordinating Board, foundations, the Texas Workforce Commission, Parent Teacher Association, statewide agencies and organizations and students.
